Grain Supply Chain Benchmarking Studies
The three grain supply chain benchmarking studies are provided below as PDF files. The studies examine ports and rail in Australia and North America, as well as central grain handling in Australia.
These benchmarking studies were undertaken in the early 1990’s, with the extensive cooperation of many local and international supply chain organisations. The Australian Wheat Board (AWB) sponsored the studies. Initially the documents were restricted to a limited release but progressively became more widely available in the semi public and public domains.
The purpose of presentation in this web domain format is to provide an avenue for the continued existence of these valuable studies. The publication of this work assists in the long term goal of improving industry efficiency through ready access to key analytical and research data. While the data is now historical in nature, the studies serve as valuable points of reference. The methodologies developed are robust and should remain valuable long into the future.
I was the leader of the Operations Policy group at the AWB during the period these studies were undertaken. I think my team achieved a fine result in undertaking these studies.
